Just living is not enough…one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower — Hans Christian Andersen
As a third year Journalism student at Rhodes University, I have always been somewhat fascinated by the connection that humans share with nature and our surrounding natural environment.
For me, this enchantment began to bloom during my late primary and high school years due to the fact that I went to a nature based school in the middle of the South African Bush, where bush pigs and wild dogs were often spotted racing around the sand, all from my classroom window. This was a school where we would go on numerous bush walks, interact with animals and insects on a daily basis and where we were educated about certain aspects of the environment, including ways to conserve and protect it.

“So where exactly does this blog come in?” You may be thinking.
Well, I will be using this platform to look closely at the relationship that we as human-beings share with nature and our environment. Whether we turn to Mother Earth as our own form of escapism like myself, or decide to devote ourselves and our voices to the sufferings of the natural world it all matters, and that is what I am excited to discover.
From avid tree climbers to star gazers and environmental activists, I believe that there are many of us who share a special connection to this beautiful aspect of our world, and for many of us, it happens in more ways than one. So come along and begin this journey with me, one barefoot at a time…
